I just found an image of a reptile that I’m about 99.9% certain is the species of our friend amongst the rocks, and it looks like SHE is a Common Chuckwalla. The image is copyrighted, so I’ll just post the link:

The third photo down is the one that most resembles the tail we saw. Also, if you read the information at the bottom of that page, you’ll better understand why the tail in the two pictures I took looks so much larger!

Interesting! Looks like you’re right about the tail thing because I noticed that it’s tail was a lot larger in the second picture but I thought it may have just been from a different angle.
